The FPR Club

I am assuming I don’t even need to ask, because I KNOW you have all missed me. Obviously. I am not going to lie to you. This summer my fitness routine pretty much shit the bed. Between a new (second) job (which I LOVE) 3 kids, sports and my new boyfriend moving to town (See pic above, we had a great summer!), I put myself on the back burner, again. Fall is here which to me is always a ‘new beginning’ so it’s time for me to get back to kickin’ ass and takin’ names! (Don’t worry Axfit boyfriends, I will be back to visit very soon 😉

Over the past few months, health and fitness have still been in the forefront of my mind. I have signed up for the Detroit Free Press Relay Marathon and I am nowhere near ready…but, I am going to do it, because I DO NOT QUIT. Even if the sweeper bus has to come and pick my ass up, I am there!

I am not going to lie. I still HATE running. I am starting to think all yourunners who looooove it and get this elusive running high are lying to me…but that’s OK. I am still determined to ‘get there’…wherever there may be. I recently joined Goodlife and the trainer there who did my orientation sessions told me I shouldn’t be running. Oh, REALLLLY? Screw you buddy, go ahead, tell me I shouldn’t or can’t do something…I will show you who’s boss. (Guess what? I didn’t hire him for more sessions either)

While I still hate running, I am fascinated by people who do it; Especially people in the FPR Club. For those of you who don’t know about this club, it’s the Fat People Running Club. When I see people like me out there, pushing themselves to the limits I want to stop and high five them, or honk my horn as I drive by and scream, “You’re doing great! Keep it up!!” But I never do…perhaps I should? I think it’s awesome that they are keeping at it while I seem to give up on it every other week.

Another part of the problem is my form…I saw pics of myself running and it’s not pretty.

Membership of the FPR Club definitely has privileges.

1)      When you are in races, people are always cheering you on and giving you that extra push to keep going. I did The Color Run this summer and felt amazing with the encouragement of people. While I didn’t run the whole thing, or even the majority, I ran. And that’s worth something.

2)      In the winter, us fluffy people keep warmer. There is no need to layer. We already have extra padding. This makes it more incentive to run throughout the year. The downfall of this would be me slipping on a patch of ice and breaking my fat ass (or the sidewalk)

3)      While most runners have goals of better times, longer distance etc., us people in the FPR club will see physical changes in, not only our appearance, but our health…then we can work on those other milestones of being all Forrest Gump-like and shit.

So, runner friends…hit me up with your ideas, and encouragement. I can totally use it! I have 5 weeks left before this race (and I am only doing 5-ishK). Is there anything at all that will make me love running?
