Do you have “Text Neck” ?

What is ‘Text Neck’?

Text Neck is when you see people slumped over with their heads in their electronic devices. WE ALL DO IT!!! This causes a huge number of sore neck ‘s and backs these days. Some people have no idea that this can or has happen to them. We have our heads in our phones a lot, you see people crossing the streets doing it, driving and it’s not uncommon to even see a 2-3 year old playing in mom’s phone at a restaurant to keep them quiet while the parents eat. Sure it’s an amazing tool that has made our lives so much easier but with our heavy heads hanging like that we have to learn to correct this poor posture.  ME INCLUDED!!! My neck and back have been hurting me a lot lately, I think it could be caused from this simple daily routine, I do a lot of emails on my phone in a day so this has to be the source of my discomfort. The average head weights 10 lbs but when leaned over your phone like that it can feel like a 20-40 lb strain on your neck, think of the hours in a week that your in your phone. Eeeek, poor neck and poor back!!

So try holding you arms up a little more while you creep Facebook on your iphone, it will help you and your body in the long run. Plus it will work those arms a little more which is always a bonus while trying to tone them up for the summer. 😀

Besides fixing my texting posture I have decided to make massage therapy even more a part of my life then it already was.

I don’t know about you but I LOVE getting a massage, I have been an active gym rat since I was a young teen so the amount of work I put my body through each workout session it’s the least I can do to give back to it.

Text Neck or not, We are blessed with one body in this lifetime, not like a car we can buy a new one when it breaks down. So why do some spend more money and time on their cars then on their own bodies? It makes no sense to me and that’s coming form a gal with no health benefits, those of you with coverage for massage therapist each month if your not using it YOUR CRAZY!!!

The benefits of massage therapy are endless and the way it makes you feel is worth a million dollars to me. I walk out of my massages…ok my hair looking like a wet greasy dog (but thats cause I like my head massaged too) but I feel refreshed and restored. My body is thanking me and I feel at peace from my busy days. It’s incredible the positive effects it has inside out on your mind, body and ‘Text Neck’.

I recently started going to a new massage therapist her names Denise Hebert, she has inspired me in so many ways. She has taught me about the proper ways to sleep at night, the way I stand and my posture while driving, sitting at the computer and working out. I now find I am catching myself throughout the day doing all the ‘don’ts’ that Denise has taught me to steer away from. I never knew that if your leaning to much weight on one foot while standing could cause so much problems in our back and neck’s.

Do you put more weight on one foot while you stand? Maybe you never noticed, but start to pay attention to it!

If your without a massage therapist and not sure who to go to, you have to go see my girl she is at the Windsor Spine & Sports Therapy building on Banwell road right off the expressway. I have had massages all my life and I can say she is one of best I have ever had.

She does a little fascial massage at the beginning  of our session, which feels totally different then a regular massage but it helps prep your muscles so she can get deeper in the massage. The fascia is the most superficial structure (closest to the surface) it covers all the muscles and organs in your body so by releasing it, it helps get deeper into the muscles. Fascial release is done without oil, it is totally new to me but so far I really like it.

She also has my arms in all these positions I’ve never had done to me before, which really gave her the ability to get into the muscles she needed to. I’m not sure if it’s because she is from out West but this girls got skills. 😀  At the moment I am seeing Denise every week until I can work this ‘Text Neck’ out or whatever it is that’s going on in my neck then we will slow it down to every 3-4 weeks.

Message Denise on her Facebook or call her at 519-996-9996.

I hope I have given you a little something to think about today, hopefully after reading this it will pop into your head the next time your heads hanging low or you will finally book your body in for the treatment it deserves.
