Healthy Brownie Recipe | Black Bean & Protein

Ok, I have 2 secrets for you.

1- I LOVE CHOCOLATE I crave it more then once a day, .. Ok I need it more then once a day…lol.  I know theres others of you out there!!  Ok, and  2- these Brownies have BEANS in them!!! haha.   “Ya you kids out there.. the ones that love my brownies…  haha, I’ve been  feeding you black beans suckers!

So I love this recipe and have to share it with you but don’t go telling everyone about the beans.. let them eat it and see what they say first.  Do they like it or hate it or even notice  that its beans at all?  It’s fun really, bringing them to a party and seeing how it plays out with people.  I watch from a distance and chuckle as they devourer it, stuffing their faces with beans!  lol

OK so here’s the recipe below,  add coconut, nuts, whatever you like.  If you don’t have agave Nectar you can use honey.

 My Healthy Brownies recipe

  • 1 1/2 Cups of cooked Black Beans  (avoid the sodium soaked ones..lol I buy  the ‘NO Salt Added’ cans if I don’t cook my own )
  • 2.5 Tbs Coco
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 2 Tbs Vanilla
  • 3/4 tsp Baking powder
  • 1/2 Cup Agave Nectar
  • 1/4 Cup Coconut Oil  (did you know you can use coconut oil on your skin hair and lips as a moisturizer too?)
  • 3 Tbs Chia Seeds
  • 2 Tbs Hemp hearts
  • 1/2 Cup Rolled oats
  • 1/2 Cup of dark chocolate ( or Cocoa Nibs )
  • You can Add any nuts you would like as well.  ( I threw in some pine nuts and almonds to this one)
  • small handful of unsweetened coconut (this is OPTIONAL, sometimes I add it others times I don’t.

So I made this recipe without a food processor, a lot of people just don’t have them and after trying this one out a few times I realized this recipe is pretty fool proof. So you can use a processor or not they turn out great, of course a lot smoother with one but the taste is all the same.  There’s something about squishing and mixing my own ingredients with my own hands and hand tools.  Like that extra elbow grease you put into making them, makes you appreciate them that much more.  Hey they didn’t have all these machines back in the day, so I like to post recipes that everyone can make.  Shit , their your brownies if you know your hands are clean then get them right in there.. they say that we put our love into our cooking.  Right?  I believe it, have fun with your recipes, try different spices, herb, vegetables.  You can alternate any recipe you want,  I don’t believe in following a recipe to the exact Tsp. each time.  BORING!  Put your love into it baby!!!

So , I squished them with the back of the spoon in a bowl, get it pretty smooth…work it! ;D

 black beans squished

Pre-heat oven to 350o

In a mixing bowl add:  Squashed beans, coco, salt, vanilla and baking powder – Mix well.

Add Agave Nectar , coconut oil and the seeds – keep  mixing together well with a spoon kind of folding it in the bowl.

Add the dark chocolate and nuts or coconut of your choice if you want.

Press into greased 9″ pan ( I just wipe it down with a little coconut oil with a paper towl

Bake for 15-20 minutes.  Keep an eye on it  then take it own when it’s done and let cool for a while before cutting into it, this way  it won’t crumble.

YummmmMM… So Enjoy the brownies they are packed with Protein and very little guilt.   There’s 51.5 grams of protein per recipe. So divide that by the amount of brownies you cutt and you should be around 6.5 grams per brownie . Ha .. not bad for a brownie!  Right?  and with no flour, sugar, milk, eggs or butter to clog up the ol’ arteries this is my Healthy Brownie.

I make these alot, as well as our  AXFIT NRG bars .. it cures my chocolate craving (need), I get that protein fix my muscles are screaming for and I know whats in them.  These store bought bars are pricey and I don’t know about you but try to pronounce the list of ingredients on the package .  If you can say them all correct you can eat it!! HAha..  When you make  your own  NRG Bars or  brownies, it’s all wholesime ingredients from your pantry and that’s just what our bodies need.  Any men out there that live on their own, here’s an easy, efficient recipe you can make.  Double the  recipe and throw in your freezer, set yourself up for the week or two.    If your lifting weights and eating like shit, then your missing out on your full bodies potential.  It’s a full balance bra, EAT,SLEEP,TRAIN so start getting domesticated a bit and appreciate this body you are given and cook for it.  Don’t wait on no girl or anyone, just do it!

Tell me how you like them and leave comments down below, share what you added or took away in your recipes.

Peace.
