Cha..cha…CHIA  SEEDS!!!

Now these aren’t new to the world by all means but they could be new to you, so they are definitely worth blogging about.  So if they are new to you and they aren’t a staple in your home yet then what the heck are you waiting for? Go RUN… run to the bulk barn or nutrition store and get these into your daily routine ASAP.  Now don’t just buy them and leave them in the cupboard you will forget about them and never use them.  Get a nice glass jar and have them out on your counter at all times.  You will see them… so you will use them.

Humans have been sucking back these little seeds since 3500 BC, the Aztecs and Mayans knew where it was at I tell ya, mixing them into everything they ate and drank. They actually believed they were magical from how it made them feel, giving them crazy amounts of energy and stamina for long periods of time.  These tiny little seeds absorb up to 12 times their own weight, so it expands to curb your appetite.

  • 18% of your daily value of calcium per ounce, which is three times more than skim milk
  • The name Chia came from a Mayan word for “strength.”  
  • About 20% Protein – 4 grams of Protein per ounce 
  • If they are soaked in water for 30 mins.. the chia seeds form a thick gel.  Same as what would happen in your stomach. Sounds gross right, but in fact it actually slows down the rate at which digestive enzymes turn carbs into sugar. 
  • They contain more antioxidants per ounce than blueberries

This list could go on… and on… and on… but I don’t want to bore you. So let’s keep it short and sweet for now and if I haven’t sold ya on them yet, well then you got a hard head and your missing out!!

 

” OK, so you want to know how to EAT them??

 

  • Sprinkle in your cereals, granola, yogurt, oatmeal
  • Grind it in with your coffee beans
  • Mix it into your baking recipes ; muffins, cookies, pancakes, breads, desserts, etc.
  • Sprinkle into stir-frys, pasta’s, chili’s, soups, stews, etc.
  • Add it to your peanut butter or honey.

TO be honest I PUT THEM IN EVERYTHING!!! There hasn’t been anything I have found that they didn’t work with.
